MP3 players

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

Despite the features of the newest iPods, I still use my (nearly 3 years old) 6GB iriver H10. It does everything I need of an MP3 player - plays music, plays radio, enough storage space, decent sound quality. The 6GB space is not a problem as I don’t use it for storing my entire music collection (that’s what computers with external hard drives are for).

That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like an iPod but I can’t see the reason for anyone who already has an MP3 player of a decent quality to go out and buy one. At the moment, you’re just paying for reasons such as “It looks nice” or “everyone has one”. I wouldn’t spend €300 for that. (Everything is ridiculously overpriced here but even from apple’s own prices it’s €180.

However I have seen friends who wouldn’t even buy a new phone with actual new and useful features go out and buy these (at the local prices, only one realised it was cheaper online). Now, I have to admit I’m usually quite bad for wanting to get the latest gadget but I’m thinking “What a waste of money”.

I will probably buy one but not until my own MP3 player stops working. Sometimes theres just no reason to upgrade.
